Role Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Multi Skilled Operative with a strong plumbing background to join the Housing Property Services team. The role involves carrying out responsive repairs, maintenance works, and preventative repairs across council-owned housing properties.

The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing faults, completing repairs right first time, and delivering a high-quality service to tenants across the borough.

This role is ideal for a qualified plumber or multi-skilled tradesperson with experience in domestic repairs, social housing, or property maintenance environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out 1st and 2nd fix plumbing works across council housing properties.
  • Complete responsive plumbing repairs including leaks, faulty fixtures, pipework, toilets, sinks, baths, showers, and heating-related repairs.
  • Attend tenant properties, void properties, and housing maintenance jobs to diagnose and resolve repairs.
  • Identify repair requirements and complete works efficiently and safely.
  • Carry out a range of multi-trade maintenance tasks alongside plumbing duties where required.
  • Provide a “right first time” repair service to tenants.
  • Communicate professionally with residents, keeping them informed throughout the repair process.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used and ensure vehicle stock is managed correctly.
  • Work independently while being supported by the Senior Tradesperson.
  • Support and share knowledge with apprentices and colleagues when required.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a recognised trade, ideally plumbing.
  • Experience carrying out domestic plumbing repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs independently.
  • Experience working within occupied properties or customer homes.
  • Experience completing a range of property maintenance tasks.
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working within social housing, local authority repairs, or housing association maintenance.
  • Experience with responsive repairs and void property works.
  • Multi-skilled experience across additional trades such as carpentry, plastering, fencing, or general building repairs.

Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualification in plumbing or a building-related discipline (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Relevant health and safety training is desirable.
