PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To work specifically with the London Borough of Southwark’s response to the Streamlined Asylum
Process.
This includes promoting the integration and resettlement of refugees within Southwark to enable them
to participate fully in society; carrying out holistic needs assessments of individuals and families and
creating support plans; providing practical and emotional support to individuals and families affected
by SAP and supporting them to access key services including welfare benefits, health, housing and
education. The post holder will also need to effectively facilitate the communication and engagement
between the refugees and key stakeholder organisations, charities and government bodies.
A large part of the role will be responding to the Streamlined Asylum Process. This is a dynamic and
evolving response and there is a potential for the responsibilities to shift as the SAP response develops.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Undertake welfare checks of evicted service users.

2. To provide advice and support to Service users evicted due to SAP.

3. To act as a Single Point of Contact for refugees and service providers/stakeholders.

4. To conduct holistic needs assessments with individuals and families and create a plan of
support

5. To provide support and advice around and referral to appropriate health services, DWP,
bank accounts, education, access to employment, housing etc.

6. To work directly with individuals and families in helping them gain the knowledge and skills
then need to move on to independence

7. To identify potential special needs/community care needs and refer to Local Authority as
needed.

8. To support individuals and families to develop connections with the local community

9. To prepare for eventual additional individuals/families being evicted by planning ahead for
such an occurrence.

10.To support the Management team in coordinating the Council’s response to SAP

11.To handle own administration efficiently and develop administrative systems which ensure the
smooth running of assignments.

12.To undertake any other appropriate duties as requested.

Pay rate: £23.42 per hour umbrella

Three to six months contract with view to extend or make permanent
