Refuse Driver
Location: North Yorkshire
Hours: 40 hours per week, typically Tuesday–Friday
Contract: Permanent/Seasonal
Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Refuse Driver to operate large refuse and recycling collection vehicles and support the delivery of efficient waste collection services across North Yorkshire.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and operate LGV/HGV refuse collection vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Complete scheduled waste and recycling collection rounds.
- Lead and work alongside a small crew of loaders.
- Carry out daily vehicle safety and defect checks.
- Use in-cab systems or handheld devices to record collections and report any issues.
- Report missed collections, access issues, vehicle defects and other problems.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a high standard of road safety, particularly around pedestrians and residential areas.
- Work across urban and rural collection routes as required.
Requirements
- Valid LGV/HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence.
- Valid Driver CPC card.
- Experience driving large goods vehicles safely.
- Good understanding of road safety and safe manoeuvring.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and lead a collection crew.
- Previous refuse or waste collection experience is desirable.
- Willingness to work early starts and occasional weekends where required.
This is a safety-critical role, and the successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant health and safety requirements.
