Umbrella rate – £19.24 an hour
Role Purpose
The Early Years Assistant supports the Nursery Nurse and Early Years Officer in delivering high-quality care, learning, and play opportunities for children aged 1 year to rising 5 years, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Main Responsibilities
1. Support for Children
-
Attend to children’s personal, social, health, hygiene, first aid and welfare needs.

Supervise children to ensure their safety and access to learning and play.
-
Build positive relationships and act as a role model.
-
Promote inclusion and equal access to learning for all children.
-
Encourage independence and positive interaction with others.
2. Support for Early Years Officer / Key Person
-
Prepare and clear learning environments as directed.
-
Assist with classroom displays and resources.
-
Monitor children’s progress and report to the Key Person.
-
Support record keeping and documentation.
-
Assist with behaviour management and report concerns appropriately.
-
Communicate information to and from parents/carers as directed.
-
Provide general administrative support (photocopying, filing, typing).
3. Support for Delivery of the EYFS Curriculum
-
Support children’s listening and communication skills.
-
Assist with implementing EYFS and other relevant frameworks.
-
Support children’s use of basic ICT.
-
Prepare and maintain learning resources and equipment.
4. Support for the Centre
-
Comply with all safeguarding, health & safety and council policies.
-
Promote equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
-
Contribute to the ethos and aims of the centre.
-
Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals.
-
Attend meetings and training as required.
-
Accompany children on visits and trips when necessary.
