Greenspaces & Community Events Support Officer (Part Time)

 

Position: Greenspaces & Community Events Support Officer (External Events)

Days: Monday – Friday (3 Days a week) including occasional evenings and weekends depending on event requirements)

 

Hours: 9am – 5pm

Salary: £13.02 per hour

Location: Hybrid – you may be required to attend events hosted by Redditch &

Bromsgrove Council.

 

Requirements: Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle

Reports to: Greenspaces and Community Events Officer (or equivalent)

 

Job Purpose

To support the delivery of safe, well-managed, and community-focused events across council-owned parks and open spaces by administering and overseeing external event applications. The role ensures events are properly assessed, coordinated, and compliant with council policies, while protecting public safety, greenspace quality, and community interests.

 

Key Responsibilities

Event Application Management

  • Log all external event application inquiries on the live event calendar / tracker
  • Administer and oversee external event applications for events taking place on council-owned parks and open spaces.
  • Review applications to ensure all required documentation is provided (risk assessments, insurance, site plans, etc.).
  • Assess proposed events against council policies, environmental considerations, and operational capacity.
  • Act as the main point of contact for event organisers during the application and planning process.

 

 

Coordination & Liaison

  • Liaise with internal council teams including parks, environmental services, licensing, safety advisory groups, and highways.
  • Coordinate approvals and ensure event organisers meet all relevant requirements before permission is granted.
  • Work with partners such as emergency services and regulatory bodies when required.

 

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure event organisers comply with council regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Review risk assessments and event management plans.
  • Monitor compliance with conditions attached to event approvals.

 

Event Planning Support

  • Provide guidance and support to community groups and external organisers regarding event planning in council greenspaces.
  • Assist with scheduling events to minimise conflicts and protect park usage.
  • Support site visits and pre-event planning meetings where necessary.
  • Attend internal event team meetings
  • Attend one-to-one meetings with line manager

 

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Maintain accurate records of event applications, approvals, and outcomes
  • Monitor event impacts on greenspaces and recommend improvements where necessary.
  • Support post-event reviews and gather feedback to improve future events.

 

Customer & Community Engagement

  • Provide clear information to event organisers and community groups regarding processes and requirements.
  • Promote positive relationships between councils, organisers, and local communities.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of outdoor events management or public events safety.
  • Experience in event coordination, administration, or community services.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and safety documentation.
  • Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong computer skills and experience of using various software including Microsoft Word, SharePoint

 

Desirable

  • Experience working within a local authority environment.
  • Understanding of parks, greenspace management, or environmental considerations.
