About the role
We’re looking for a skilled Carpenter / Multi-Trade Operative to join our Direct Works team, delivering high-quality repairs and maintenance across our housing stock. You’ll work in both tenanted and void properties, carrying out a wide range of carpentry and general trade tasks to an excellent standard.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out carpentry and multi-trade repairs on responsive, planned, and capital works
- Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently, including urgent and emergency jobs
- Plan and manage your workload to meet appointments and service targets
- Use a PDA to record work, update jobs, and order materials
- Identify and report follow-on works where needed
- Maintain tools, materials, and vehicle stock safely and securely
- Work closely with supervisors, planners, and colleagues to deliver excellent service
- Support apprentices and trainees where required
- Ensure all work complies with health & safety standards and council policies
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience in carpentry and multi-trade work (e.g. basic plumbing, plastering, or tiling)
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Basic IT skills (for PDA/mobile systems)
- Full UK driving licence
