Job Details

PAYE – £21.41 an hour

Main Responsibilities

Postmortem Support

  1. Assist pathologists with postmortems, including evisceration and reconstruction of deceased.
  2. Prepare and manage bodies for postmortem examination while protecting forensic integrity.
  3. Conduct postmortems on high-risk cases (e.g., HIV, Hepatitis B/C), including specimen collection and safe handling.
  4. Support forensic postmortem services.

Administrative & Organisational Duties
5. Manage the availability and scheduling of pathologists.
6. Organise collection, transport, storage, and packaging of samples under HTA, PACE, or Toxicology requests.
7. Update and audit the mortuary database for accurate record-keeping.
8. Manage mortuary shared mail inbox and answer telephone enquiries.

Property & Release Management
9. Record and securely store personal property of the deceased (clothing, money, jewellery).
10. Assist with the release and delivery of deceased patients from hospitals and the community.
11. Provide viewing services for families and the local community.

Communication & Compliance
12. Liaise effectively with police, families, funeral directors, laboratories, hospitals, and mortuaries.
13. Assist the Designated Individual under the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licence.
14. Ensure compliance with the Human Tissue Act 2004, maintaining dignity of the deceased.
15. Follow HTA and Haringey Council Codes of Practice and Guidance.

Professional Development
16. Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
17. Adapt to changes in duties as required within the dynamic mortuary environment.

Certificate/Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Science (APT) Essential
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Essential
