About the Role

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking an experienced and dynamic Building Control Interim Lead to take strategic and operational responsibility for delivering a high-performing Building Control service.

This is a senior leadership role where you will drive service excellence, ensure compliance with building safety legislation, and lead transformation to deliver an efficient, customer-focused, and financially sustainable service.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Building Control service, including surveying, technical, and support teams
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Building Control and safety legislation
  • Act as the principal advisor on building safety and regulatory matters
  • Drive service transformation, innovation, and digital improvement
  • Manage budgets, performance, and financial planning
  • Lead on quality assurance, risk management, and health & safety
  • Develop strategies to increase market share and income generation
  • Build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement

About You

You will be a highly experienced professional with strong leadership capability and a proven track record in Building Control or Building Surveying services.

Essential requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. Building Studies, Civil/Structural Engineering, Building Surveying)
  • Registered Building Inspector (appropriate level)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CIOB, CABE, ICE, IStructE) or management qualification (CMI/ILM)
  • Significant experience at a senior level within Building Control or a related service
  • Strong knowledge of legislation, compliance, and local government environments
  • Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, performance, and service improvement
