About the Role
North Northamptonshire Council is seeking an experienced and dynamic Building Control Interim Lead to take strategic and operational responsibility for delivering a high-performing Building Control service.
This is a senior leadership role where you will drive service excellence, ensure compliance with building safety legislation, and lead transformation to deliver an efficient, customer-focused, and financially sustainable service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Building Control service, including surveying, technical, and support teams
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Building Control and safety legislation
- Act as the principal advisor on building safety and regulatory matters
- Drive service transformation, innovation, and digital improvement
- Manage budgets, performance, and financial planning
- Lead on quality assurance, risk management, and health & safety
- Develop strategies to increase market share and income generation
- Build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- Lead and develop high-performing teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
About You
You will be a highly experienced professional with strong leadership capability and a proven track record in Building Control or Building Surveying services.
Essential requirements:
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. Building Studies, Civil/Structural Engineering, Building Surveying)
- Registered Building Inspector (appropriate level)
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CIOB, CABE, ICE, IStructE) or management qualification (CMI/ILM)
- Significant experience at a senior level within Building Control or a related service
- Strong knowledge of legislation, compliance, and local government environments
- Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, performance, and service improvement
