Catering Assistant (Temporary Seasonal Role – Summer)
Location: Arthog Outdoor Education Centre, Arthog, Wales, LL39 1BX
Pay Rate: £13.45 per hour PAYE
Contract Type: Temporary, seasonal role for the summer
Hours: 12–30 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Sunday (days may vary week to week)
Hours of Work: 6:00am – 10.00am or 3.30pm – 7.30pm
Requirements: Enhanced DBS required

About the Centre
Arthog Outdoor Education Centre is a residential centre accommodating over 90 guests, located across the estuary from Barmouth in Mid‑Wales. The Centre delivers peak experiences and life‑changing outdoor education residential programmes in mountain, river and coastal environments. Opportunities are also extended through expeditions across the UK and abroad.
Purpose of the Role
Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of our Client, Telford & Wrekin Co-Operative Council, on a temporary basis for Catering Assistants. The Catering Assistant will assist with the production and service of meals and associated duties, ensuring an efficient catering operation that complies with Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations, while providing an enjoyable social dining environment.
The post holder will work closely with the Catering Manager and Catering Supervisor.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Encourage pupils to try new foods and support a healthy diet
- Assist with the catering operation within the designated unit, including food production and serving meals
- Carry out general kitchen and dining room duties, including washing up and cleaning kitchen equipment, floors and walls during and after service
- Ensure the kitchen complies fully with Food Hygiene and Health & Safety legislation
- Carry out all assigned tasks in line with Food Hygiene and Health & Safety requirements
- Assist with setting up the dining room, tables and service trolleys, and clean and tidy the dining room after service
- Ensure safe storage of food provisions and accurate recording of temperature checks
- Attend required training courses
- Assist with ordering and receiving provisions and materials for meal production under the direct supervision of the Catering Manager and in line with Council policies
- Deputise for the Catering Manager and/or Catering Supervisor during their absence when required, including completion of records, timesheets, stock takes, production information and wastage records
- Adhere to all policies and procedures, raising awareness of required actions with non‑catering staff and visitors where necessary
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Friendly and approachable personality, contributing positively to the Centre environment
- Good time management skills
- Flexibility to work varying days
Desirable (but not essential)
- Food Safety Level 1 qualification
- Experience working in a similar catering role
- Knowledge of safeguarding
