About the Role

Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of Coventry City Council for Light Vehicle Drivers to support the Waste Services Department with the rollout of the city’s new food waste collection service.

You will be responsible for driving a 3.5-tonne light goods vehicle and delivering food waste bins and associated materials to residential properties across Coventry. The role involves a combination of driving, manual handling and customer-facing duties, requiring individuals who are reliable, physically fit and committed to providing an efficient service to residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a 3.5-tonne light goods vehicle in accordance with road traffic and health and safety regulations.
  • Deliver food waste bins and associated materials to residential properties across Coventry.
  • Load, unload and manually handle bins and other materials throughout the working day.
  • Follow allocated delivery routes and schedules to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Complete delivery records and other required documentation accurately.
  • Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects or issues promptly.
  • Ensure deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and within agreed timescales.
  • Provide a professional and courteous service when interacting with residents.
  • Follow all Council and site health and safety procedures.
  • Work independently while maintaining effective communication with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Support the Waste Services team with other reasonable operational duties as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence suitable for driving a 3.5-tonne vehicle.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Must be aged 18 or over.
  • Physically fit and able to undertake regular manual handling.
  • Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous delivery or driving experience.
  • Experience working in waste services, logistics, distribution or a similar operational environment.
  • Experience involving manual handling and working to daily delivery targets.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 7.5 hours per day
  • Friday: 7 hours
  • Total: 37 hours per week
  • Start time: 7:30am
  • Break: 30-minute unpaid break each day
