Location: Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough Council
PAYE Pay Rate: £20.00 per hour
Work Pattern: 3 days on-site, 2 working remote – (9am till 5:30pm)
Main Purpose of the Role
Manage rent collection and arrears for a portfolio of social housing properties, helping tenants sustain their tenancies while maximising rental income and following housing legislation and Council policies.
Typical Day
- Manage rent accounts and follow up rent arrears.
- Contact tenants by phone, letter and through home visits.
- Provide advice on benefits, rent payments and tenancy sustainment.
- Agree payment arrangements and make referrals to support services.
- Prepare cases, reports and paperwork for court proceedings.
- Attend court and represent the Council on possession cases.
- Work closely with Housing, Housing Benefits, DWP, CAB and other agencies.
- Maintain accurate case records and meet performance targets.
- Deal with customer enquiries and complaints professionally.
Key Skills & Responsibilities
- Rent arrears and income recovery/debt collection experience.
- Knowledge of housing and welfare benefits.
- Experience with social housing and tenancy sustainment.
- Strong case management and accurate record keeping.
- Understanding of legal processes for rent recovery and possession.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to deal calmly with difficult or vulnerable customers.
- Partnership working with internal and external agencies.
- Ability to manage targets, workloads and deadlines.
- Willingness to carry out home visits and attend court.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Level 2 qualification relevant to the role.
- At least 2 years’ experience in social housing or a relevant customer-facing service.
- At least 3 years’ experience in housing income collection/recovery.
- Strong knowledge of welfare benefits and benefit reforms.
- Experience of rent arrears and debt recovery processes.
- Knowledge of housing legislation and court procedures.
- Experience representing landlords in civil/possession proceedings.
- Willing to work towards a Level 3 Housing Management/Social Housing qualification.
- Appropriate personal transport for an agile role.
