Main Purpose of the Job:
To lead and supervise a team of Waste Operatives in delivering safe, efficient, and reliable household and commercial waste collection services. The role involves managing daily collection activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, operating waste collection vehicles safely, supporting recycling and waste management services, and providing a high standard of customer service to residents and businesses.
Key Responsibilities Summary:
- Supervise and support a team of Waste Operatives to complete daily waste collection rounds effectively.
- Ensure waste is collected, handled, sorted, and disposed of safely in line with environmental and health & safety requirements.
- Drive and operate large waste collection vehicles safely, including carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting defects.
- Ensure correct use of PPE, safe working practices, and compliance with waste handling procedures.
- Manage bulky, hazardous, electrical, recycling, and specialist waste streams correctly.
- Deliver waste loads to approved disposal or processing sites following all site procedures.
- Complete operational paperwork, maintain records, and communicate issues to supervisors.
- Deal professionally with public enquiries, complaints, and provide information about waste and recycling services.
- Support additional operational duties such as snow clearance and pavement gritting during severe weather.
- Maintain required driver qualifications, training, and compliance with relevant legislation.
