Make a Difference to Children’s Futures

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dedicated Attendance Officer to join the School Attendance Support Service in Walsall.

The service works in partnership with schools, families, and partner agencies to monitor, improve, and promote regular school attendance. Through a supportive and restorative approach, we help identify barriers to attendance, work with families to overcome challenges, and ensure children and young people receive the education they are entitled to.

As an Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting schools and families to improve attendance outcomes and help children achieve their full potential.

The Role

You will manage a varied caseload, working independently within a statutory framework and graduated response model. You will build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, school staff, and external agencies to reduce absence and support sustained engagement in education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working directly with schools and families to improve attendance levels
  • Conducting home visits and attending parental meetings
  • Supporting pupils and families experiencing barriers to regular attendance
  • Providing advice, guidance, and practical support to schools
  • Monitoring attendance data and maintaining accurate case records
  • Preparing clear and professional reports
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes

About You

We are looking for a passionate and resilient professional who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people.

You will have:

  • Experience working with children, young people, and families
  • Experience within an educational setting, with knowledge of attendance support
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships
  • The confidence to provide flexible, individualised support based on family needs
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy caseload
  • Excellent report writing skills and attention to detail
  • Experience using IT systems to maintain records and analyse information
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to communicate clearly and professionally in spoken and written English

This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a service that makes a real difference to children, young people, and families. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with schools and communities, helping to remove barriers to education and improve attendance outcomes.

If you are passionate about supporting young people and have the skills to make a positive impact, we would love to hear from you.
