Work Pattern: 37 hours weekly, 8:30 am till 5pm

PAYE Pay Rate: £20 per hour

Main Purpose of the Role

To provide high-level executive and administrative support to a senior leader within the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. The role involves managing complex diaries, coordinating meetings and briefings, handling sensitive information, and building strong relationships with senior stakeholders.

Typical Day Overview

  • Managing a complex and changing diary, prioritising appointments and commitments.
  • Coordinating meetings, events, briefings and public engagements.
  • Liaising with MPs, elected members, government departments, businesses and community representatives.
  • Preparing briefing papers, correspondence and information for senior meetings.
  • Managing sensitive and politically significant issues with discretion.
  • Monitoring actions and correspondence to ensure they are followed up and completed.
  • Responding quickly to urgent or unexpected issues and changing priorities.
  • Working closely with senior stakeholders, including Police and Fire representatives.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in a highly visible and externally facing role.

Essential Skills / Experience / Qualifications

  • Significant experience providing executive or senior-level support.
  • Experience supporting a senior executive, politician, elected member or high-profile leader.
  • Experience working in a political, public sector or stakeholder-focused environment.
  • Strong experience managing complex diaries, workloads and competing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Strong judgement, discretion and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to assess risks, anticipate issues and respond appropriately.
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders and external organizations.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable:

  • Existing Police Vetting would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Experience working with Police, Fire, government departments or elected representatives.
