Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Registered Building Inspector to support the delivery of a high-quality Building Control service. The role involves managing a portfolio of development projects, carrying out plan assessments and site inspections, and ensuring compliance with the Building Regulations and the Building Act 1984.

You will work on a range of Class 2A–2E projects, providing technical advice to developers, architects, and contractors while helping ensure construction work across the borough meets required safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of building control applications across Class 2A–2E developments.
  • Carry out plan checking and site inspections to ensure compliance with building regulations and relevant legislation.
  • Investigate complaints, dangerous structures, demolition works, and unauthorised building activity.
  • Support enforcement action where necessary, including preparing evidence for legal proceedings.
  • Provide professional guidance to developers, architects, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Contribute to the issue of completion certificates and regulatory decisions.
  • Assist in supervising and supporting junior inspectors and team members where appropriate.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours dangerous structures rota.

Requirements

  • Registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Class 2A–2D or 2E Registered Building Inspector.
  • Level 5 qualification in Building Control or a degree in a relevant field such as Building Surveying, Construction, or Structural Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction, materials, and building control legislation.
  • Experience carrying out building inspections and managing development applications.
  • Membership (or working towards membership) with a professional body such as:
    • Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
    • Chartered Association of Building Engineers
    • Chartered Institute of Building
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and maintain accurate regulatory records.

Work Style

This is a hybrid role combining office-based plan assessments with regular site inspections, requiring strong technical judgement and effective stakeholder communication.
