Service Manager – Adult Social Care
Grade 10 | Coventry City Council | Adult Social Care
Coventry City Council Adult Social Care is looking for an experienced, confident and values-led Service Manager to join our operational leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to support high-quality, strengths-based and person-centred services across the city.
We are proud that Coventry Adult Social Care has recently received a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission. Our focus is on helping people live well, maximise independence, stay connected to their communities and access the right support at the right time. This role will help us continue to strengthen operational delivery, improve practice and support innovation.
About the role
As a Grade 10 Service Manager, you will lead specific service areas while also supporting wider operational activity across Adult Social Care. You will provide clear leadership across performance, practice quality, risk and resources, working flexibly across service boundaries to respond to demand and support continuous improvement.
Alongside your defined portfolio, you will contribute to operational leadership across Adult Social Care, not just the teams and services you are responsible for. You will act as a constructive critical friend to Service Managers across ASC, offering support, challenge and shared learning to help manage pressures, improve practice and ensure responsive, safe and effective support for all Coventry residents.
As Coventry’s Neighbourhood model continues to evolve, so too will the portfolios and areas of responsibility across our Service Manager posts. We are not a static organisation; we are looking for someone who can embrace change, support growth and help shape how services develop to meet the changing needs of Coventry residents and communities.
Key responsibilities
- Lead designated Adult Social Care service areas, ensuring safe, effective and strengths-based practice.
- Support wider operational delivery across Learning Disability, Community Mental Health and Adults services.
- Provide visible leadership to managers and practitioners, promoting accountability, professional curiosity and a positive practice culture.
- Use data, performance information, quality assurance and feedback to understand demand, evidence impact, manage risk and drive improvement.
- Contribute to service planning, workforce resilience, financial sustainability and effective resource management.
- Support large-scale digital and workforce transformation, including the roll-out and embedding of digital solutions such as Scribe.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and providers to improve outcomes for adults and unpaid carers.
About you
We are looking for a skilled and motivated leader who can combine strong operational management with the ability to work across a complex and changing system. You will be confident using data, insight and professional judgement to make decisions, evidence impact and support improvement.
You will bring experience of leading adult social care services, support frontline practice and work with partners to deliver positive outcomes. You will be committed to strengths-based practice, inclusive leadership, continuous improvement and making the best use of digital tools to support our workforce and improve people’s experience of care and support.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Lead with confidence, compassion and accountability.
- Build positive relationships across teams, services and partner organisations, working flexibly to support priorities across ASC when needed.
- Support operational grip while encouraging innovation and learning.
- Use data and evidence to understand impact, improve outcomes and support decision-making.
- Champion digital solutions that reduce administrative burden and create more time for direct work with people.
- Promote a culture where staff feel supported, visible leadership is valued and good practice is recognised.
Why Coventry?
Coventry is a diverse, ambitious and fast-changing city. If you are an experienced adult social care leader who wants to make a real difference, strengthen operational delivery and help shape the future of services in Coventry, we would welcome your application.
