Job Title: Social Work Officer (Adult Social Care)

About the Role

The Social Work Officer provides frontline support to adults in need of care and protection, working under the supervision of qualified social workers. This role involves assessing needs, developing support plans, and coordinating services to help residents live safely and independently. The role is ideal for someone with experience in adult social care, mental health, or safeguarding, seeking a challenging and rewarding position in a local authority setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct strengths-based assessments to identify the needs, risks, and goals of residents.
  • Develop, monitor, and review support plans for adults, including arranging short-term care and respite.
  • Manage a caseload of non-complex or targeted cases, ensuring timely interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners, including NHS clinicians, voluntary sector providers, and community resources.
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with statutory guidance (e.g., Care Act 2014).
  • Maintain accurate and high-quality records of assessments, reviews, and casework.
  • Support residents in increasing independence, resilience, and wellbeing.

Person Specification / Requirements

  • Previous experience in adult social care, mental health, or safeguarding teams.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple cases.
  • Knowledge of adult safeguarding and Care Act 2014 statutory duties.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.

Desirable:

  • Experience with care planning, risk assessment, or strengths-based assessments.
  • Familiarity with local authority case management systems.
