Job Details
Worcestershire County Council are looking solicitor to assist in the provision of an effective and efficient legal service to and for the County Council.
- To handle legal matters concerning one or more aspects of the Council’s function (as allocated from time to time), particularly in respect of Planning/Highways (including both contentious and non-contentious matters) and other corporate and contentious matters affecting the Council
- To act as advocate in any forum; to prosecute; to pursue or defend common law claims including debt collection; to appear before tribunals and public inquiries
- To research legal questions arising from the work of the Council or its components or associated public bodies for whom the Head of Legal & Governance (whether or not in that capacity) also
- To participate in the provision of a comprehensive legal advice service to Member Bodies and officers of the Council and to conduct proceedings arising therefrom or in connection therewith.
- To assist those Officers and Administrators and Member Services who are responsible for administrative work arising from meetings of the Council or its components.
- To participate, as required, in the preparation of Legal Services input into such “best value” processes as may be

- To represent the Head of Legal & Governance at meetings of Member Bodies and Officer Groups, as required.
- To take all reasonable steps to ensure confidentiality, where appropriate .
- To bring to the attention of the Head of Legal & Governance as Monitoring Officer any matter of which s/he should be aware in order to discharge the duties of that
- To participate in the implementation, development and maintenance of office procedures, systems, standards and policies, as required.
- To record all the time worked, in accordance with the Legal Services’ time recording system (if required).
- To assist in the training of trainee solicitors.
