Job Title: Solicitor – Housing Litigation

Overview

We are seeking a qualified Solicitor (or Barrister with rights of audience) to join our Litigation team, providing legal advice and conducting litigation in relation to housing management and landlord & tenant matters.

You will manage your own caseload of routine and more complex matters, with support from senior colleagues where appropriate, ensuring effective legal protection of the organisation’s interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of housing litigation matters, including:
    • Anti-social behaviour (ASB) injunctions and possession claims
    • Tenancy fraud and breach of tenancy cases
    • Housing disrepair claims
    • Access injunctions and enforcement proceedings
    • Environmental Protection Act prosecutions
    • Money claims and Court of Protection applications
  • Conduct litigation from start to finish, including:
    • Drafting pleadings, applications, and legal documents
    • Preparing witness statements, trial bundles, and case summaries
    • Instructing Counsel and attending court/undertaking advocacy where appropriate
  • Provide legal advice to internal stakeholders on landlord & tenant law and related matters
  • Handle additional contentious matters such as:
    • First-tier Tribunal cases
    • Trespass, rights of way, and easement disputes
    • Contractual disputes involving contractors, landlords, and leaseholders
  • Support the instruction of external solicitors where required

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with housing officers and internal teams to ensure effective case management
  • Provide support to witnesses, including in sensitive ASB cases (occasional out-of-hours contact where required)
  • Assist in supervising junior team members and supporting senior colleagues
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Compliance & Development

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of housing law and the regulatory framework for housing associations
  • Ensure accurate case management and data recording
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of internal legal processes
  • Promote knowledge sharing and a compliance-focused culture

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor with a valid practising certificate, or Barrister with rights to conduct litigation
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in housing litigation / landlord & tenant law
  • Strong experience managing litigation cases independently
  • Excellent drafting and communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively
