Job Title: Teacher of Psychology
Location: Outer London
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full Time (Flexible/Part Time considered)
Pay Scale: MPS/UPS (Outer London) + £1,500 Allowance
Responsible to: Head of Department / Senior Leadership Team

Purpose of the Role

To deliver high-quality teaching in Psychology at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, fostering academic excellence and supporting students to achieve outstanding outcomes. The postholder will contribute to the wider life of the sixth form and uphold high expectations for all learners.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging, challenging and inclusive lessons in Psychology.
  • Prepare students effectively for internal and external examinations.
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson resources aligned with the National Curriculum and examination specifications.
  • Assess, record and report on student progress in line with academy policies.
  • Use data effectively to monitor progress and implement targeted interventions.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management.

Student Support & Pastoral Care

  • Act as a form tutor (if required), supporting students’ academic and personal development.
  • Promote equality of access and high aspirations for all students.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers and external agencies as appropriate.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Contribute to departmental planning and collaborative working.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and performance management processes.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions and school events as required.
  • Uphold academy policies and procedures, including safeguarding and equality policies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Relevant undergraduate degree (e.g., Psychology or related field).

Experience

  • Successful teaching experience at secondary level (including teaching practice).
  • Experience in diverse or urban school settings desirable.
  • Experience teaching at Key Stage 4 and/or Key Stage 5 desirable.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong subject knowledge in Psychology.
  • Understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4.
  • Ability to plan, differentiate and assess effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Competent ICT skills, including use of interactive technology in teaching.
