Teaching Assistant – Hearing Impairment
Location: Stoke Park Secondary School, Coventry
Rate: £13.91 PAYE per hour
Hours: 7 hours per day, 8:15am – 3:45pm
Days: Ideally Monday to Friday, although fewer days may be considered
Contract: Temporary, initially until 23/10/2026, covering sick leave
Term Time Only
DBS: Enhanced Children’s DBS required
About the Role
Coventry City Council is looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant to support deaf and hearing-impaired students within the Hearing Resource Base at Stoke Park Secondary School.
You will work alongside teaching staff to help students access and understand their lessons, providing individual support and using British Sign Language (BSL) to communicate and support learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Support deaf and hearing-impaired students within the classroom.
- Use BSL to communicate with students and support their understanding.
- Listen to lessons and help interpret or explain information to students.
- Adapt and break down classroom work to ensure it is accessible and appropriate to the child’s level of understanding.
- Support students with classwork, instructions and learning activities.
- Encourage students to develop their independence, confidence and communication skills.
- Work closely with teachers and school staff to provide effective support.
- Help students participate fully in lessons alongside their peers.
- Support positive behaviour and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
- BSL Level 2 or equivalent – essential.
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/Level 4 or equivalent.
- Recent experience working with children in an educational setting.
- Experience supporting deaf/hearing-impaired children and/or children with SEND.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt learning and explain information clearly.
- Enhanced DBS for working with children.
No teaching qualification or driving licence is required for this role.
