Job Description – Specialist Navigator
Location: Camden, London (Kings Cross office at least one day per week)
Contract: Temporary / Contract details to be confirmed
Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Specialist Navigator to support women who have experienced domestic abuse, sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence (VAWG), particularly those facing multiple disadvantages such as homelessness, mental health difficulties, substance misuse and financial hardship.
The successful candidate will provide trauma-informed, person-centred support through community outreach, helping survivors improve their safety, access essential services and work towards greater independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a small, intensive caseload, building trusting relationships with survivors and supporting them at their own pace.
- Provide safety planning, risk assessments, crisis intervention and support to reduce the risk of further abuse.
- Conduct regular community outreach to engage women who may struggle to access traditional support services.
- Support survivors with housing issues, homelessness prevention, tenancy sustainment, benefits and budgeting.
- Help women rebuild confidence, reduce isolation and access education, training and employment.
- Coordinate referrals and work closely with housing services, social services, healthcare professionals, substance misuse services and criminal justice agencies.
- Advocate for survivors and their children, accompanying them to appointments, meetings and court where required.
- Maintain accurate case records and coordinate multi-agency support to achieve positive outcomes.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Experience supporting people affected by domestic abuse, gender-based violence and/or multiple disadvantages.
- Experience of outreach work, safeguarding, risk assessment, safety planning and crisis intervention.
- Ability to build trusting relationships using a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach.
- Understanding of the impact of abuse on survivors and children, and the barriers vulnerable people face when accessing services.
- Strong communication, advocacy and multi-agency partnership-working skills.
- Resilience and the ability to manage complex cases sensitively and professionally.
Working Arrangements
This is a community-based role involving regular outreach across Camden, including visits to hostels and other community settings. The role involves lone working, so the successful candidate must follow appropriate safety procedures and be comfortable working flexibly in potentially challenging environments.
The postholder will work as part of the Domestic Abuse Navigator team, reporting to the team lead and collaborating with colleagues and external agencies.
